Christmas Service Project - Saturday, 12/13/2008

***What has changed***: 1) The Penguin Patrol has been moved from the afternoon shift to the
morning shift.
2) Hawks to bring 6 tangerines each.

Who: All scouts and Venture scouts of Troop 890.

What: Mandatory Christmas Service Project. We will put on Christmas parties for the residents of Audelia Manor and some of the apartment complexes, plus stage cookouts at others served by LHUMC.

When: Saturday, December 13th

What time: Morning Shift 9:00-11:15am or Afternoon Shift 2:00-5:00pm (see below.)

Where: Lake Highlands United Methodist Church and in the community.

Why: To provide service to LHUMC and the community it serves as a “Thank You” for being our chartering organization.

Attire: All scouts are to wear Class A uniforms for this project.

What about conflicts: If you cannot make it due to school activity or sports, call Mr. Page at 972/238-7144 or email him at tjpage@att.net to let him know ASAP.

Details:
1) STUFF TO BRING:
All scouts and Ventures* are to bring the following to LHUMC Fellowship Hall by 9 am on December 13th.
a) One dozen homemade cookies per scout (or homemade-looking if you don’t bake!)
b) 6 pieces of fruit per scout as assigned by patrol:
6 apples each: Mustangs, Wolverines, Geckos, & Pythons
6 pears each: Bats, Rams & Lynx
6 oranges each: Sharks, Eagles, Penguins, & Bulls
6 tangerines each: Alligators, Dragons, and Ventures & Hawks
c) $12 per scout

2) SHIFT ASSIGNMENTS:
Morning Shift, 9:00-11:15am
The Mustangs, Wolverines, Lynx & Penguin patrols are to work the morning shift. Report to the Great Hall (gym) and sit down by patrols as you would for a troop meeting. You will be assigned duties from there which will consist of preparing gift bags for the Audelia Manor party and signing Christmas cards to send this Christmas to wounded soldiers in the hospital.
Afternoon Shift, 2:00-5:00pm
All other patrols (Alligators, Bats, Bulls, Dragons, Eagles, Geckos, Hawks, Pythons, Rams, Sharks) plus Venture* scouts are to report to the Great Hall (gym) for the afternoon shift. You will host hot dog cookouts for some of the apartment complexes served by LHUMC or work the Audelia Manor or other parties. Assistant Scoutmasters will oversee the cookouts.

3) PARENTS NEEDED:
a) We need 6 parent volunteers for the morning shift to help direct the boys in preparing the gift bags and getting the party platters ready.
b) We need 15 parent volunteers for the afternoon shift to transport the scouts to the apartments which are located on Audelia or Whitehurst and bring them back to church when done.
c) Please email Gaye Westerheide at gaye.westerheide@earthlink.net to volunteer or call her at 214/503-7479. Leave your name, phone number, shift for which you are volunteering, and number of scouts you can transport if for the afternoon shift.

*Venture scouts--If you were in a regular 890 patrol prior to being a Venture, then bring what is designated for that patrol. If you have only been a Venture, then bring what is designated for Ventures--same for the shift assignments.
